Key areas of improvement: Identifying his ideal client, resulting in huge revenue increases.
Chris didn’t know what he wanted to do until he was 25, at which point he went to University and completed a degree in Audiovisual Technology. The TV area jumped out at him and he followed that path; however, he was finding it hard to get work in the industry. He also wanted more freedom; the type of freedom that he would have by becoming his own boss, and so came the inception of DreamCube Productions.
When he started his business he hadn’t thought about the effort and expenses that would be involved, he quickly realised it wasn’t going to be as easy as he had imagined. He was building slowly and came across Outcomes Business Group accidently when he was filming an event. He had just rebranded the business to DreamCube Productions and thought it was a good idea to get serious and engage a Business Coach to assist.
Chris says coaching just “fit at the time.” It was the first business seminar Chris had been to and David Guest’s thoughts resonated with him. Chris “wanted the business to build faster, it wasn’t growing fast enough.” He had clients that required a lot of work and it wasn’t the type of work he wanted; they were the type of people that didn’t pay well. Prior to coaching Chris says he didn’t have a sustainable model; more work was coming in but it was the wrong type of work. He has now identified his areas of expertise and works with “people that see the value in his work.”
Chris began Outcomes Business Group’s Profit Club Program in June 2016. Since Chris’ revenue has grown by 250% and he says “It will double again if it keeps at the speed it is”. Chris listed a couple of the best tips and advice he received during his coaching, including to “respect the work that you do more” and to create a business that can run without you by systemising everything to make the day-to-day tasks easier.
When Chris leaves his coaching sessions he feels motivated to implement everything he has learnt and “take action quickly or they will fall into the background”. Chris says, initially “It’s hard to hear that what you have worked for was being done wrong.” but his confidence has improved dramatically and feels comfortable and excited to learn new things and move the business forward.
Chris has almost halved the amount of hours he is working per week by making changes and improvements to his time management, by implementing a default diary Chris has found more balance. He is also creating more time in his day by focusing on attracting and working with the right type of clients; he says “Target your ideal client rather than anyone that will pay.”
Chris says the vision for DreamCube Productions is much clearer now, he has a lucid vision about what he wants to do and is learning the how to achieve it, he sees “A bright light where it was once dim”. In the next 3 years Chris plans to grow and expand DreamCube Productions, he intends to take on employees and start to run the business from afar rather than working in it.
If you’re considering engaging a Business Coach, Chris says just start and “get a clear vision”, “Evolve and see the bigger picture, rather than have the blinkers on.”
