With experience across a number of industries, including hospitality and events, fashion and retail, it would’ve been hard to pick that this entrepreneurial operator would end up creating a business orientated around CRM provision & service to SMEs. But that’s exactly what Kylie Harker did in 2011. She observed the rapid growth in the software and technology industries and identified a gap in the market that she moved right on into. She understood the need for systems and processes to facilitate growth along with awareness that this also requires guidance to attract, implement and train staff successfully.
Kylie first connected with The Breakfast towards the end of 2015 and being the people connector and networker that she is, saw the opportunity as a potential partner/presenter early on.
The average person ranks the fear of public speaking higher than the fear of death. And Kylie Harker definitely falls into this category, although she certainly exceeds the label “average” in her role as founder and director of Squirrel Business Hub. So ‘feeling the fear and doing it anyway’ she threw her hat over the fence, recognising that the audience of SMEs aligned with her own target market.
After two events Kylie eased into subsequent breakfast engagements using an interview style presentation. Her reward from pushing through was gaining new business from the quality leads and the acquisition of large clients, resulting in ROIs of 6, 13 & 20 times respectively. Aside from these obvious gains, the positive feedback from Kylie’s guests was an added highlight, with the “amazing” venue and professionalism of the event being noted.
From a presenter’s point of view, Kylie acknowledged the “well-oiled system” of pre-event (and post event debrief) meetings as part of the success formula. This included specific support given to presenters to create a succinct message, and linking of presenter material to the topic, as well as the refined system to ensure warm to hot leads were captured. An added bonus was the connection with other “professional and courteous presenters” who also became referral partners adding to her business growth.
Kylie’s advice to others considering taking up the presenter opportunity is to ensure that the follow-up from the Feedback forms is undertaken with due diligence in the first fortnight post event. She gives this OBG partner platform a 10/10 rating for those wishing to grow their businesses, and will be up for future participation.
